Spot Quiz
Spot Quiz gives you short, five-question multiple-choice quizzes on technical topics — Linux command line, cybersecurity, Git, C, Python, networks, DevOps, cryptography, machine learning, data structures and many more. Each topic has subtopics, and each subtopic has many quizzes.
By the end of this page you will know how to get a quiz, how rewards work, and what the game modes are.
Open it from Evaluate → Spot Quiz in the sidebar.
1. Pick a topic
The Spot Quiz home page lists every topic. Open one and use the tabs:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Topics | The topic's subtopics |
| Recent | Newly generated quizzes, in one subtopic or all of them |
| Trending | The most visited and played quizzes |
| Completed | Quizzes you have finished |
| Leaderboard | The leaderboard for this topic |
You can play any quiz someone else has generated — open it from Recent or Trending.
A few details about these lists:
- Recent and Completed have a menu: pick … in All for the whole topic, or one subtopic.
- Trending shows quizzes in this topic that have been played at least 10 times, and hides the ones you have already completed.
- For You on the Spot Quiz home page lists quizzes chosen from your skills and interests, across all topics. See Recommendations.
- Every list follows the difficulty you have selected — Easy, Normal or Hard. Your choice is remembered and shared by every quiz feature: the lists, Surprise, Self Evaluation and the game modes.
Quiz tags
Every question carries a few tags naming what it tests, such as a command, a concept or a language feature. The quiz page shows the tags of all five questions as badges under the title. The topic Leaderboard shows each player's Most Played Tags — the tags from the quizzes they have won.
2. Generate a quiz
To get a fresh quiz of your own, pick a difficulty — Easy, Normal or Hard — and select Spot Quiz on a subtopic. The AI writes a new five-question quiz, which takes a minute or two. You are notified when it is ready.
| Option | What you get |
|---|---|
| Spot Quiz | A new quiz on the subtopic you chose |
| Surprise | A new quiz on a random subtopic of the topic, with 20% more Zeal for you, the person who generated it. Costs a little more Jolt. |
The confirmation dialog shows the Jolt cost, your balance and what you will have left. Jolt is taken only if the quiz is generated successfully — if generation fails you keep it. See Zeal and Jolt for current costs.
What generating costs
| You generate | Jolt | Difficulty changes the cost? |
|---|---|---|
| A Spot Quiz on a subtopic | 1 | No |
| A Surprise quiz | 2 | No |
| A Self Evaluation quiz (below) | 1 | No |
You need at least that much Jolt to start. The difficulty you pick changes the questions and the reward, not the price.
The Surprise bonus is 20% more Zeal only — the Jolt reward is the same — and only for the player who generated the quiz. Anyone else who plays that quiz later earns its normal reward.
While the quiz is being generated
A progress dialog shows Attempt: 1 / 3. The platform tries up to three times to produce a valid quiz:
- It works. You see "Your quiz is ready! Taking you to the quiz..." and the quiz opens. You also get a notification, so you can close the dialog and come back to it from your notifications.
- All three tries fail. You see "We are unable to generate a quiz for you. Please try again later." No Jolt is taken.
A new quiz is written to avoid repeating the titles of quizzes that already exist in the subtopic.
Self Evaluation
Some quizzes are made from lessons, roadmaps and syllabi you are studying. Find them under Self Evaluation on the Spot Quiz home page.
The Self Evaluation page has these tabs, and a search box across all of them:
| Tab | What you pick a quiz from |
|---|---|
| My Lessons | Lessons you generated in Learn AI |
| Studied | Lessons you have studied |
| Liked | Lessons you liked |
| Roadmaps | Nodes of the roadmaps you have started |
| Syllabi | Units of a syllabus |
Pick a lesson, roadmap node or syllabus unit, choose a difficulty, and the platform generates a five-question quiz on it. When the lesson or unit has written chapters, the questions test that material. When it has only a title, the questions test your knowledge of the subject the title names.
Self Evaluation quizzes work like any other Spot Quiz:
- They cost 1 Jolt, taken only when the quiz is generated.
- They pay Zeal and Jolt under the same rules — see How rewards work.
- They count toward quiz achievements, and some achievements are only for Self Evaluation quizzes.
The From Your Learning section of the Spot Quiz home page also lists quizzes other people have generated from Roadmaps and Lessons.
3. Play
The quiz page shows the difficulty, the rewards available, and a timer. Select Begin Quiz.
- Questions come one at a time, in order. Choose an answer and select Submit Answer.
- You cannot go back or change an answer once submitted.
- After each answer you are told whether it was right or wrong, and the progress dots update. The correct option is not revealed.
- A wrong answer does not stop the quiz. Select Next Question and continue to the end.
- After the fifth answer the button changes to See Result. Select it to see Quiz Completed! with your score out of 5.
If you leave in the middle, your answers so far are kept. Open the quiz again and it continues from the next unanswered question.
The countdown shows how you are doing against the quiz's suggested time. Finishing late does not cost you the reward.
4. How rewards work
- All five right, first time. You earn the quiz's Zeal and Jolt only if you answer every question correctly on your first complete run.
- One wrong answer and that run earns no rewards. You still answer the rest of the questions, and the quiz is still marked completed.
- Once per quiz. A quiz pays you at most once.
- Restarting is free and unlimited — but pays nothing. Select Restart Quiz to practice the same questions as many times as you like.
The Zeal you earn counts toward your league.
How big the reward is
The quiz page shows Rewards Available — the Zeal and Jolt this quiz will pay you. The amount depends on two things:
- The difficulty level — Easy, Normal or Hard. Harder levels pay more.
- How hard the questions are. When the AI writes a quiz it also rates how difficult it is, and a harder-rated quiz pays more within its level.
So two quizzes at the same level can pay different amounts. The quiz cards in the lists show each quiz's reward before you open it. After you finish a quiz, Rewards Available drops to 0, because there is nothing left to earn from it.
Why one wrong answer means no Zeal
A quiz pays only for a perfect first run — five correct answers out of five, the first time you finish it. There is no partial credit: four out of five pays nothing.
How the platform applies the rule:
- Each answer is sent to the platform when you select Submit Answer. The platform checks it against the answer key, which is never sent to your browser. Your browser only learns "right" or "wrong".
- You cannot change an answer once it is submitted, and you cannot skip ahead.
- When your fifth answer arrives, the platform counts your correct answers. Five out of five, on a quiz you have not completed before: it pays the Zeal and Jolt immediately and marks the quiz completed. Anything less: it marks the quiz completed without paying.
- From then on the quiz is completed for you, so restarts are practice only.
What you see:
| Result | On the page | Notification |
|---|---|---|
| 5 / 5 on your first run | Quiz Completed! 5 / 5, with confetti. Your Zeal and Jolt balances go up. | A Score notification for the Zeal and Jolt, and a quiz notification |
| Fewer than 5 on your first run | Quiz Completed! with your score. The progress dots show which answers were wrong. Rewards Available shows 0. | A notification that you completed the quiz without rewards |
| Any restart | Quiz Completed! with your score | None for rewards |
While you are still answering, Rewards Available keeps showing the full reward, even after a wrong answer. It changes to 0 only when you submit your fifth answer. A wrong answer does not show you the correct option either — the option you picked turns red and its progress dot turns red.
This is decided by the platform, not by your browser, so reloading the page, opening the quiz in another tab or changing the page does not change the result.
Restarting, and what "completed" means
- Completed means you have answered all five questions once — whatever your score. Completed quizzes appear in your Completed tab, and Trending stops showing them to you.
- Restart Quiz is on the result screen. It clears your answers so you can play the questions again. It is free, unlimited and never pays.
- Initial completion on the quiz page shows how long your first complete run took.
The countdown next to Time Remaining is a suggested time of at least two minutes, set when the quiz was generated.
Game modes
Game modes string several quizzes together into one longer run. You pay an entry fee in Jolt to start, and the fee is not refunded if you fail. Easy lowers both the fee and the reward; Hard raises both. The mode's card shows the exact entry fee before you start. What a run actually pays is set out in Game mode rewards.
| Mode | Where to start it | Questions | Limit | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tech Master | Spot Quiz home page | 20, from four quizzes across different topics | 8 minutes | One wrong answer ends the game |
| Time Trial | Time Trial on the home page, or Sprint on a topic | 15, from one topic | 5, 8 or 10 minutes by difficulty | One wrong answer ends the game |
| Rapid Fire | Rapid Fire, or Rapid on a topic | 35, in seven sets of five | 15, 30 or 60 seconds per question by difficulty | Questions move on automatically; results only at the end |
| Blitz | Blitz, on the home page or a topic | 30, all from one random subtopic | 10 minutes | One wrong answer ends the game |
| Endurance | Endurance, or Marathon on a topic | 50, getting harder as you go | 15, 40 or 90 minutes by difficulty | Three lives |
How game modes are run:
- The time limit is enforced. When it runs out the session ends with "Time's up! Game session expired".
- Lives are enforced. In most modes one wrong answer ends the run.
- Questions are drawn at random and shuffled. Every mode uses only quizzes you have not played yet.
- Each perfect set of five pays. A bonus is added only if every set in the run was perfect.
Starting a game mode
- Select the mode's button — on the Spot Quiz home page, or on a topic's page (where it is already set to that topic).
- In the dialog, pick Easy, Normal or Hard. For Tech Master, a level is grayed out when there are not enough quizzes you have not played at that level.
- Pick a topic from the list, unless the mode is Tech Master or you started from a topic's page. The list only shows topics with enough completed quizzes for the mode.
- Check the entry fee, then select Start Challenge. The fee is taken, and the first question appears.
If the button says Not Enough Quizzes, or you see "Not enough quizzes available for this mode. Please complete more standard quizzes first.", there are not enough unplayed quizzes to build a run. Play or generate more quizzes first. Blitz needs at least six unplayed quizzes in a single subtopic.
Entry fee
Every mode has the same entry fee, set by the difficulty you pick:
| Difficulty | Entry fee |
|---|---|
| Easy | 25 Jolt |
| Normal | 50 Jolt |
| Hard | 75 Jolt |
The fee is taken when the run starts. It is not refunded if you lose your lives or run out of time.
How each mode plays
| Mode | Sets of five | Topic | Lives | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tech Master | 4 | Chosen for you — the quizzes come from different topics where possible | 1 | 8 minutes at every difficulty |
| Time Trial | 3 | You pick one; the quizzes come from different subtopics where possible | 1 | Easy 5 min, Normal 8 min, Hard 10 min |
| Rapid Fire | 7 | You pick one; the quizzes come from different subtopics where possible | No lives — wrong answers do not end the run | Easy 15 s, Normal 30 s, Hard 60 s per question |
| Blitz | 6 | You pick one; all six quizzes come from one random subtopic in it | 1 | 10 minutes at every difficulty |
| Endurance | 10 | You pick one; the quizzes come from different subtopics where possible | 3 | Easy 15 min, Normal 40 min, Hard 90 min |
- The difficulty decides which quizzes you get. Easy draws quizzes rated easy, Hard draws quizzes rated hard.
- Questions come in sets. All five questions from one quiz come together, in a shuffled order, then the next quiz. In Endurance the quizzes are ordered from easiest to hardest.
- Only unplayed quizzes are used, and preferably ones another player has already completed.
- After a wrong answer you are shown the correct option, and a heart is lost in modes with lives. Tech Master, Time Trial and Blitz end on the first wrong answer; Endurance ends on the third.
- Rapid Fire shows nothing until the end. Each question moves on by itself when its timer runs out, and an answer that arrives late counts as wrong. You see your results only when all 35 questions are done.
- The top of the screen shows your Streak, your lives, the time left and the reward earned so far. Rapid Fire hides the reward until the end.
Game mode rewards
A game mode pays in two parts, both scaled by the difficulty.
1. Each perfect set. Every quiz set you answer 5 out of 5 is added to the run's total as soon as you finish it:
| Difficulty | Per perfect set |
|---|---|
| Easy | 8 Zeal and 4 Jolt |
| Normal | 15 Zeal and 8 Jolt |
| Hard | 30 Zeal and 16 Jolt |
2. The completion bonus. Paid only if you answer every question in the run and every set is perfect — a flawless run. For a flawless run the bonus is:
| Mode | Easy | Normal | Hard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tech Master | 88 Zeal, 36 Jolt | 175 Zeal, 72 Jolt | 350 Zeal, 144 Jolt |
| Time Trial | 60 Zeal, 23 Jolt | 120 Zeal, 45 Jolt | 240 Zeal, 90 Jolt |
| Rapid Fire | 160 Zeal, 63 Jolt | 320 Zeal, 125 Jolt | 640 Zeal, 250 Jolt |
| Blitz | 90 Zeal, 36 Jolt | 180 Zeal, 72 Jolt | 360 Zeal, 144 Jolt |
| Endurance | 210 Zeal, 77 Jolt | 420 Zeal, 154 Jolt | 840 Zeal, 308 Jolt |
How a run ends decides what you are paid:
| The run ends because | You are paid |
|---|---|
| You answered every question and every set was perfect | Every set, plus the completion bonus |
| You answered every question, but some sets were not perfect (Rapid Fire, Endurance) | The perfect sets only |
| You ran out of lives (Game Over!) | The perfect sets you finished before that |
| The time limit ran out (Time's Up!) | Nothing |
| You reported a question | Nothing — see Reporting a bad question |
Rewards are paid automatically when the run ends, and you get a notification with your score and streak. Play Again on the results screen starts a new run of the same mode — with a new entry fee.
Every quiz that gives you a question in a game mode counts as played and will not appear in a game mode again. A set you answered 5 out of 5 counts as a won quiz for your achievements, but it does not pay that quiz's own reward — the game mode pays instead — and it will not pay again if you open it as a standard quiz later. A set you did not finish perfectly counts as a failed quiz.
Reporting a bad question
If a question is wrong, select Report Issues on the quiz and check what applies:
- Inaccurate Questions/Answers
- Missing Options
- Improper Formatting
- Code Readability / Indentation
- Spelling / Grammar
Reports go to the platform's moderators, who can remove a quiz. There is a daily limit on how many quizzes you can report.
Reporting a question in the middle of a game mode costs a small Jolt fee and ends the session.
The details:
- Where the button is. In a normal quiz, Report Issues is on the result screen, after your fifth answer. In a game mode it appears with the question.
- Daily limit: 10 reports a day. After that you see "Daily report limit reached (10 per day). Please try again tomorrow."
- In a game mode, a report costs 1 Jolt and you need at least 1 Jolt to send it. The run ends at once with Session Invalidated — "This game session was ended because a question was reported." The run pays nothing, even for sets you had already finished perfectly. Your entry fee is returned.
- A reported quiz is taken out of the game modes immediately, for everyone. It stays playable as a normal quiz unless a moderator removes it.
Leaderboards
- The Quiz Leaderboard (Mastery Hall → Quiz Leaderboard) ranks everyone by Zeal earned from quizzes, then by quizzes completed.
- Each topic has its own Leaderboard tab.
The Quiz Leaderboard counts the Zeal from quizzes you won. Zeal from game modes is not part of it.
Achievements and the Quiz Mastery Hall
Quiz achievements reward steady play. They come in families, for example:
| Family | Rewards you for |
|---|---|
| Milestones | Winning a number of quizzes in total, from 1 upwards |
| Speed | Winning several quizzes within an hour, a day, a week and so on |
| Streaks | Winning quizzes in a row without a failure |
| Daily streaks | Winning at least one quiz a day for several days running |
| Difficulty mastery and breadth | Winning quizzes at each difficulty, and across many topics |
| Self Evaluation | Winning Self Evaluation quizzes from your lessons, roadmaps and syllabi |
Only won quizzes count — a perfect first run, in a normal quiz or as a perfect set in a game mode. Restarts do not count.
Achievements are not paid automatically. To collect them:
- On the Spot Quiz home page, select View All Achievements to open the Quiz Mastery Hall.
- Open the Ready tab. It lists achievements you have earned but not yet collected.
- Select Collect Reward on one, or Collect All to collect them all at once. The Zeal and Jolt are added to your balance.
The Mastery Hall also has Collected and All tabs, Total Earned, and Refresh Achievements, which rechecks your progress if an achievement you expect has not appeared yet. Each card shows your progress and a tier — common, rare, epic or legendary — that rises with its reward.
Select Track on up to three achievements to pin them, with their progress, to the Tracked Achievements section of the Spot Quiz home page.
Notifications you get
| When | Notification |
|---|---|
| A quiz you asked for has been generated | The quiz is ready — select it to open the quiz |
| You win a quiz | The quiz title and the Zeal and Jolt you earned, plus Score notifications for each |
| You finish a quiz without winning it | You completed the quiz without rewards |
| A game mode run ends | Your score and streak, and what you earned |

Common questions
I got four out of five. Why no Zeal at all? A quiz pays only for five out of five on your first complete run. See Why one wrong answer means no Zeal.
I restarted a quiz and got five out of five. Why no reward? Only the first complete run can pay. Restarts are for practice.
The countdown reached zero. Did I lose the reward? No. In a normal quiz the countdown is a guide only. Game modes are different: there the time limit is enforced.
My quiz generation failed. Was I charged? No. Jolt is taken only when a quiz is generated successfully.
Why can't I start a game mode? There are not enough quizzes you have not played at that difficulty, or in that topic. Play or generate more quizzes, or try another difficulty or topic.
A quiz I played in a game mode now shows as completed or failed. Quizzes that appear in a game mode count as played. See Game mode rewards.
