Notifications

The platform tells you when something happens to your labs, your points, your clan or your posts. This page covers where those messages appear and what to do about the ones that need action.

Where they appear

  • The envelope in the top header of every page except home. The number on it is your unread count.
  • Pop-ups, with a sound, when something arrives while you are on a page.

The home launcher has no envelope — open any other page to see your messages.

The open notifications dropdown: 'You have N unread messages', Mark all as read, the category tabs, a few notifications and Load More...

Reading and dismissing

  1. Click the envelope. The header reads You have N unread messages.
  2. Use the category tabs to narrow the list, and Load More... to go further back. A dot on a tab means it has something unread.
  3. Click a notification to open it. The dialog offers:
    • Open — go to the thing it is about, such as the lab
    • Mark Read — or Understood, Mark Read for system alerts
    • Dismiss — close the dialog and leave it unread
  4. Mark all as read clears the lot.

Most messages disappear from the list once read. A few important ones — a lab stopping, storage over its limit, a change of plan — stay in the list after you read them.

Repeated alerts about the same thing are grouped rather than sent again and again. There are no per-category settings: you cannot mute a category or have notifications emailed.

Lab health alerts

These arrive under System and are the ones worth acting on.

AlertWhat it meansWhat to do
Your lab is running throttledThe lab keeps hitting its CPU limitFind what is using the CPU — a runaway process, a heavy build, a misbehaving editor extension — and stop or limit it. If it continues, the lab is stopped
Your lab is about to be killedIt has been throttled for a long timeFix it now, or stop the lab yourself. Ask an administrator if you cannot find the cause
Your lab has been killedIt was stopped for sustained CPU overuseFind the cause before you redeploy. Your home directory is kept
Your lab ran out of memoryA process hit the memory limit and was killed. The lab itself may still be runningCheck the lab's dashboard. Reduce the app's memory use, or move to a plan with more
Your lab crashed unexpectedlyThe lab exited on its own; the exit code is in the message. The platform did not stop itRead the app's logs from the lab's dashboard, fix, then redeploy
Your lab is unhealthyIt is failing its health check. In a scale group it is taken out of rotation until it recoversCheck the app and its logs
lab stoppedThe lab was stopped; the message says whyRedeploy whenever you like — your home directory is preserved
lab has been expired! The lab reached its expiry or idle limitRedeploy to start it again. See Plans and limits

Memory, crash and health alerts are sent at most once an hour per lab.

Alerts for a lab owned by an organization or department go to all its members; alerts for a clan's challenge lab go to every clan member.
