Plans and limits
Every account is on one of two plans: Free or Pro. This page shows what each one allows, how your plan is decided, and what happens when you go quiet for a while.
Which plan am I on?
Your plan is shown in three places:
- the pill in the launcher's top bar — Pro or Free
- the top of the avatar menu — Pro Plan, Pro · date when it has an end date, or Free Tier
- Account Settings → Account
How your plan is decided
You do not pick a plan in the app. It is set for you, from the first of these that applies:
- an administrator assigned it to you directly
- your email address was pre-authorised for Pro
- your email domain is covered — for example, everyone at a partner college or company
- you are enrolled in a programme the platform recognises
- otherwise, Free
If you expected Pro and see Free, sign out and back in first, then ask your administrator. Some platforms admit only registered people; if yours does and you are not on its list, you see "Sorry, you are not on the registered list. Please contact the admin."
Default limits
These are the platform's defaults. Your administrator can change them for you or your organization, so Account Settings → Account Limits is always the authority for your own account.

Your own domains — ones you bought elsewhere and point at a lab — do not count towards the domain limit.
Limits on lab copies and on deployments from your own templates are shown on Account Limits when they apply to you.
Only running labs count towards the running-labs limit. Stop one to make room for another.
Extras that come with Pro — or with Zeal
Some features unlock either with a paid plan or once you have earned enough Zeal:

CPU and memory
CPU and memory are set per lab, by the lab's template and your plan — there is no account-wide number. Each lab's own dashboard shows its limits and live use. See Labs.
When you are inactive
Running labs. A lab you have not used is stopped after 7 days on Free and 1 month on Pro. Your home directory is kept; redeploy to carry on. Always-on labs are exempt.
Free accounts idle for a year. A Free account with no activity for a year can be made dormant: its devices are suspended and its storage is set aside. Signing in again restores both. If a further year passes, the set-aside storage is deleted. Your points, achievements and history are kept either way. You get a We miss you notification along the way.
Pro accounts are never made dormant.
Organization accounts
If you work inside an organization or department, it has its own plan and limits, separate from yours.
- When you switch to the organization account, Account Limits shows the organization's limits, shared by all its members.
- Labs, devices and domains you create while switched count against the organization, not you.
- A department's limits are a share of its organization's.
