Acting as an organization
When you belong to an organization or department, you can switch the dashboard over to that account. While switched, the things you create belong to it rather than to you.
Switch account
- Select your avatar in the top-right corner.
- Under Switch account, pick Personal, an Organization or a Department. Departments are listed under their organization.
The Switch account list appears only when you have somewhere to switch to.
While switched, the avatar shows the organization's picture with your own as a small badge, and hovering it reads Acting as … — you are still …. On the home launcher the large avatar changes the same way.
To go back, open the avatar menu and pick Personal.
What changes while you are switched
| Personal | Switched to an organization or department | |
|---|---|---|
| New labs, domains, devices, services | Owned by you | Owned by the organization or department |
| Lists such as Machine Labs, My Devices, My Domains | Yours | Theirs |
| Account Settings → Account Limits | Your limits | The shared limits of that account |
| Plan pill | Your plan | That account's plan |
| Who you are | You | Still you |
The last row matters: switching changes ownership, not identity. Permission checks, your points, your notifications and the activity log still use you. Nobody can act as the organization anonymously.
If you belong to a department of an organization, you are offered that department rather than the organization itself. Only the organization's owner and admins can switch to the bare organization account.
What the avatar menu shows while switched
The top of the avatar menu shows the organization's or department's name, the line Acting as organization (or Acting as department followed by the organization's name), and that account's plan. Your own VPN Status is not shown while you are switched.
What belongs to the organization
| You do this while switched | Who owns the result |
|---|---|
| Deploy a machine lab or one of your templates | The organization or department |
| Add a device, a domain or a service user | The organization or department |
| Deploy a challenge lab, or a lab in team mode for your clan | You (or your clan) — competition labs never belong to an organization |
Labs the organization owns count against its running-labs limit, not yours. When it is full, deploying shows Your organization can run N labs at a time on its plan. Stop one to deploy another.
The idle rule that stops a Free user's labs after a week does not apply to labs an organization owns. See Plans and limits.
When the switch stops working
The platform checks on every page that you may still act as that account. If you are removed from the organization or department, or lose the role that let you use the bare organization account, the dashboard switches you back to Personal automatically.
Default networks
Organization and department accounts have one extra setting. While switched, Account Settings → Account Limits shows Default WG networks: the private networks that the account's labs join when a deploy does not choose any. Pick up to four that do not overlap, then Save defaults. See Private networks.
Until you save a choice, only Public network (the shared VPN every account uses) is selected. The section appears only when the account can use at least one private network as well.
