Workgroups

A workgroup is a named list of people. Share a lab or a template with the workgroup once, and everyone in it gets access — including people you add later.

Unlike an organization, a workgroup owns nothing. It is purely an audience for sharing. Anyone can create one, and a person can belong to as many as they like.

Create a workgroup

  1. Go to Instances → Workgroups.
  2. Click New workgroup and give it a name.
  3. Open its settings and add people on the Members tab with the Name or username box, as Member or Admin.
The workgroup settings dialog with the Members list and the Sharing defaults (Default role for shared templates, Default role for shared running labs, Shares apply to).

Share defaults

When something is shared with the workgroup, each member gets a role. The workgroup's Sharing section sets what that role is by default:

SettingOptions
Default role for shared templatesViewer — can see it, nothing more · Deployer — can deploy their own copies · Editor — can edit files and builds
Default role for shared running labsViewer — read-only dashboard · Operator — start, stop and redeploy
Shares apply toEvery member, or Owner and admins only

The person sharing can still pick a different role in the Share… dialog.

Share with the workgroup

Open the lab or template, click Share…, and pick the workgroup instead of a person.

Sharing needs a paid plan or enough Zeal — the dialog tells you if you are not there yet. See Zeal and Jolt.

Leave or delete

  • Any member can Leave this workgroup from its settings.
  • The owner and admins can Remove from workgroup on a member's row.
  • The owner can delete the workgroup from the Danger zone. Deleting removes the workgroup and every grant made to it. Members keep their own resources.
