Learn AI
Learn AI writes a structured lesson for you on whatever you want to learn — "Docker networking for a beginner", "build a REST API in Flask and deploy it" — split into chapters, tied to a lab you can practice in, and backed by an AI tutor that knows the lesson.
Open it from Learn → Learn AI in the sidebar, or the Learn AI tile on the home page.
Find a lesson before you make one
The single box at the top does three things, depending on what you type:
| Type | What happens |
|---|---|
| A few words | Searches lessons that already exist |
#tag | Filters lessons by tag, e.g. #linux |
| A description of what you want to learn | Offers to generate a new lesson |
Other people's public lessons are free to read, so search first — someone may already have written what you need.
The tabs below the box sort what exists:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| For You | Lessons picked for you from your activity — see Recommendations |
| Continue | Lessons you started and have not finished |
| Explore | Everything public |
| Most Liked, Editor Picks, Most Interacted | Popular and staff-selected lessons |
| My Likes, My Lessons, My Syllabi Lessons | Your own lists |
Filter any tab by level: All Levels, Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced.
A few more things about the lists:
- The page remembers the tab and level you picked last time.
- Continue also shows the roadmaps you are part-way through, ahead of your lessons.
- Above the box, a row of suggestion chips (five at random, such as Linux Command Line or Docker Containerization) fills the box with a ready-made request when you select one. Nothing is generated until you confirm.
- You can browse and read lessons without signing in. The box itself, My Likes, My Lessons and My Syllabi Lessons appear once you sign in.
- For You appears only when your platform has recommendations switched on.
- Each lab also has its own Learn tab listing lessons that use that lab — see Labs.
If there is no Learn group in your sidebar, or Learn AI is missing from it, your platform has not switched the feature on. Ask your administrator.
Generate a lesson
- In the box, describe what you want to learn.
- Pick a level.
- Confirm. Generating a lesson costs 25 Jolt, shown before you confirm. If your balance is too low, the button tells you so and nothing is charged.
- Continue with something else. When the lesson is ready you get a Lesson Created notification.
What happens while it generates
After you select Generate in the Generate Lesson Plan dialog, a Preparing Lesson window shows a progress bar and the message Our AI is working on it.... It usually takes a couple of minutes.
| Result | What you see | Jolt |
|---|---|---|
| The lesson is created | Lesson generated successfully!, then the lesson opens. A Lesson Created notification also arrives. | 25 is taken now |
| Generation fails | Failed to generate Lesson. Please try again. (or the reason), and the page reloads | Nothing is taken |
| It runs for more than five minutes | Taking longer than expected. Please try again — you have not been charged. | Nothing yet. The lesson may still be finished in the background; if it is, the 25 Jolt is taken then and the Lesson Created notification arrives. Check it before you try again. |
You are charged only once the lesson actually exists. Selecting Generate twice for the same request, or retrying straight after a page reload, picks up the request that is already running instead of starting — and charging for — a second one.
The info button beside the box opens the Learn AI Usage Guide. The short version: say what you already know, what you want to be able to do, and a project you want to build. If you want to practice in a ready-made environment, mention it — for example the Essentials lab.
A weak request: "Python". A strong one: "I know basic Python. I want to build a small web API with Flask, store data in PostgreSQL, and deploy it on my Essentials lab."
The lesson page
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Outline / map view | The chapters, and your progress through them. A chapter shows Completed once you finish it. |
| Required Lab | The lab the lesson expects you to practice in, with a button to deploy it |
| Prerequisites | What you should know first |
| Up Next | Where to go after this lesson |
| Regenerate Chapter (10 ⚡️) | Rewrites one chapter if it is unclear or wrong. Refunded if regeneration fails. |
| Visibility | Public (anyone can read it) or Private — only the owner can change it |
| Like | Adds it to My Likes and helps others find good lessons |
Lesson pages can be read without signing in, so you can share a link with anyone.
How a lesson is organized
A lesson is split into modules, and each module into chapters. Switch between two views at the top of the lesson:
- Outline — the modules as a list you expand, with each chapter inside.
- Map — the same chapters drawn as a diagram.
Chapters are written the first time someone opens them, not all at once when the lesson is generated. Opening a chapter that has not been written yet shows a placeholder for a moment while the text is produced. This costs nothing.
Work through the chapters
- Open a chapter from the outline.
- Read it, and practice in the Required Lab if the lesson names one.
- Select the circle icon at the top of the chapter (its tooltip reads Mark Complete). It turns into a green check mark; select it again (Mark Incomplete) to undo.
The ring at the top of the lesson shows the percentage of chapters you have completed. When you complete the last chapter you get a Lesson Completed notification. Lessons you have started but not finished sit on the Continue tab, and the card's button changes from Start Learning to Continue.
Who can do what on a lesson
| Action | Who |
|---|---|
| Read the lesson, like it, share its link | Anyone (you must be signed in to like it) |
| Mark chapters complete, track progress | Any signed-in user, for their own progress |
| Regenerate Chapter | The lesson's owner only. You must give a reason, and only one regeneration of a chapter can run at a time. |
| Make Private / Make Public | The lesson's owner, from the settings (gear) menu on the lesson card |
| Delete Lesson | The lesson's owner, from the same menu |
| See the generation prompt | The owner sees it free; everyone else pays to reveal it — see below |
New lessons are public when they are created. A lesson you generated from a syllabus unit shows Go to Syllabus in its menu instead of the visibility option.
Making a lesson private removes it from every tab and from search. Anyone you have already given the direct link to can still open it.
AI Assist — a tutor for this lesson
Each lesson has its own AI chat. On a lesson you generated yourself it is open from the start, at no cost. On anyone else's lesson it starts locked:
AI Assist is Locked — 25 ⚡️ Jolt
Unlock it once per lesson (a one-time payment) and the Ask AI box opens. Before you pay, a confirmation shows the AI Assist Cost, your Available Jolt and the Jolt Remaining afterwards. You get an AI Assistant Unlocked! notification when it is done. You need to be signed in to use the chat. The tutor knows the lesson's content, so you can ask "why does chapter 3 use a volume here?" without explaining the context.
While you chat, meters above the box show how much of the conversation the AI can hold (Context window), and a Token history dialog breaks down each exchange, including how many actions the assistant took in your lab, such as commands and file operations.
See how a lesson was generated
Reveal Cost: 1 Jolt. Revealing shows the original prompt used to generate the lesson. Once revealed you can view it again for free. It is a good way to learn how to write better requests.
Test yourself on a lesson
When you have worked through a lesson, check what stuck with a short self-evaluation quiz built from it.
- Open Evaluate → Spot Quiz and go to Self Evaluation.
- Pick a tab: My Lessons, Studied (lessons you have been reading), Liked, Roadmaps or Syllabi.
- Select the lesson. A dialog lists any quizzes already made from it, which you can play straight away.
- To make a new one, choose Easy, Normal or Hard. It costs 1 Jolt and takes a moment; a notice says Your self-evaluation quiz is being generated....
- When it is ready, the quiz opens and plays like any other spot quiz.
The questions come from the chapters that have been written so far, so open the chapters first. If generation fails you see Quiz generation failed. Please try again.
